Introducing the project to the group

At 12 noon today I introduced the "your electronic design diary" project to the student group. The group consists of final year landscape architects and garden designers. I started by asking them to complete a questionnaire about their use of the internet and their attitudes towards design project feedback. The results of the questionnaire will be posted later.

The initial reaction to the brief was negative. A number of students seemed to feel that what was being asked of them was onerous and would not benefit them. If some of them were more enthusiastic, they kept quiet about it.

After a 15 minute question and answer session, the mood lightened a little but my feeling is that, in general, they are very sceptical of the whole exercise. I have asked them to set up their blog before the end of the week and to email their blog address to me. I will then create an index of all student blogs by next Monday.

Despite the reaction to the brief, I am still very optimistic about this project. It is unusual (in my experience) to have such a negative reaction from a group of students to something which is new, interesting and innovative.
